On Saturday, July 10, 2010 the NJBBA hosted 9 vets along with their aids, drivers and activities managers to a day of fishing at Stone Harbor Pier, Stone Harbor, NJ. The vets were brought from the Vets home in Vineland by bus to the pier where NJBBA members and volunteers assisted the vets in rigging their poles and fishing. Even though the fish and the weather did not cooperate (our first rain in 8 years) most vets donned rain ponchos and continued to fish. They did stop long enough to enjoy a lunch provided by NJBBA and then went back to fishing. Bob Swak of Cape May, NJ brought his crab traps and caught many small crabs. The vets were given caps with waving flags on them and small cooler bags as a token of our appreciation. Not only do the vets get the experience of a day of fishing but all the folks who come to help that day go home with a smile on their face. The vets included, Rusty Colbourn from Franklinville, Carl Kock, Victor Peitro, Phila. Pa., Richard Burgin, Bill Byrne, Mays Landing, Richard Bacon, Bridgeton, Ed Hunter, Millville, Bob Swak, Cape May and Jerry Griggs, from Millville. The NJBBA held it's second of 2010 "Take the Vets Fishing"
this past Saturday, August 7th. The beautiful sunny day
brought 13 vets out for fishing and fun. Again no fish were caught
but I don't think anyone minded. A day of friendship, fun and
honoring those who served our nation surely were more important to
all involved. The vets included: Rusty Colbourn from
Franklinville, NJ, Earl Barber from Atlantic City, Jerry Szwak from
Cape May, Richard Bacon from Bridgeton, Brian Kelley from Pittman,
Charlie Kinsky from Mt Ephram, Danny Connover from Longbranch,
William Hunter from Paulsboro, Allen Dotti from Cherry Hill, Tony
Fassano from Philadelphia, Bill Byrne from Mays Landing ,Victor
Petro from Philadephia and Ed Hunter from Millville. Also
attending was the originator of the event Swannie Gay. *********************************************** The Vet's Fishing Outing are always at: Location: 81st Street (bay side), Stone Harbor, NJ For Direction: Click Here NJBBA is proud to sponsor Disable Veterans Fishing Trip twice a year, It was the conception of Swannie Gay eight years ago. She is now a retired, 17 yr Veteran of our Naval Forces who for a number of years collected clothing for the 200+ veterans at the Vineland Home. Thinking she could do more,” and she did”, now we at NJBBA THANK HER for the chance to be involved. It’s now a time when we can bond and put smiles on some faces of those who have served their country and in some cases paid a heavy sacrifice. The event last only 3 to 4 hours. The Association gives one on one assistance along with supplying all the food, beverages, snacks, tackle and bait along with a thank you gift from NJBBA for their service (blanket, hat, shirts, sweats etc). The trip is to a fishing pier in Stone Harbor, the town supplies a handi-cap Joni and the use of their pavilion on hot days. All proceeds come from donations; the event is organized by Director Ron Patten and Swannie Gay. PLEASE JOIN US OR DONATE- YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERANCE
